Bus
This plate style is for commercial vehicles with a registration weight over
8,000 pounds designed and used to carry passengers with their baggage and
express for compensation or a vehicle with a registration weight of more than
10,000 pounds that is primarily used to carry passengers.
If your bus is over 26,000 pounds you need to contact Commerce and Compliance (CCD); if the vehicle
can be registered with DMV you will need to complete a Registration Certification.
If your bus does not have to be registered with CCD and has a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or
more you must provide a copy of the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Return (IRS Form 2290
).
A Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Certificate of Compliance may be required if you are in a
DEQ area.
Registration is valid for the number of quarters you apply for, up to one year.

Disabled Veteran
These plates cannot be used to park in Disabled Person Parking spaces.
A
qualifying veteran can only have one plate or set of plates. Any vehicle
that can be registered may get disabled veteran plates except:
o Low-speed;
o Medium-speed; and
o Commercial vehicles.
Disabled Veteran registration is permanent.
You must provide proof that you have a service-connected disability.
An Application for Disabled Veteran Plates
is required.

Farm
This plate style is for qualifying motorized farm vehicles.

Moped
A moped has an independent power source and (if combustion engine) has an engine
size of 50 cubic centimeters or less, or rotor displacement of 35.01 cubic inches or
less and does not exceed 30 miles per hour; if either is not true for your bike, it’s a
motorcycle.
Motorcycle
A motorcycle cannot have more than three wheels. A vehicle that looks like a
moped is considered a motorcycle if it has an engine size of more than 50 cubic
centimeters, or rotor displacement of more than 35.01 cubic inches, or exceeds 30
miles per hour.

Racing Activity Vehicle
Most vehicles do not meet the definition of a racing activity vehicle, as defined
by ORS 801.404. If your vehicle was originally manufactured as a passenger
vehicle, it DOES NOT qualify as a racing activity vehicle, even if you modified it. If

Snowmobile
A snowmobile must be titled and registered even if you only use it on your own

Travel Trailer
A travel trailer is a trailer that provides facilities for human habitation and is designed to
be used temporarily for recreational, seasonal, or emergency purposes. Travel trailers
can be up to 8 ½ feet wide in travel position and (except tent trailers) have four

Truck
Trucks are designed or used to carry loads other than passengers.
If your truck is over 26,000 pounds you need to contact Commerce and Compliance

Charitable/Non Profit

Fleet Vehicles
This plate style is for qualifying Oregon-based companies who register 50 or more
vehicles used intrastate. Fleet vehicles can be passenger vehicles, buses, trucks, light
trailers, heavy fixed load, or light fixed load.
For-Rent Trailers
This plate style is for trailers with a loaded weight of 8,000 pounds or less (except for
travel trailers, bus trailers or truck trailers) that are for hire and have pneumatic tires.

Heavy Fixed Load
This plate style is for fixed load vehicles over 3,000 pounds that are not designed or
used primarily to transport persons or property (not including travel trailers, tow trucks,
truck-mounted transit mixers, self-propelled cranes or farm equipment).
Light Fixed Load
This plate style is for fixed load vehicles 3,000 pounds or less that are not designed or
used primarily to transport persons or property (not including travel trailers, tow
trucks, truck-mounted transit mixers, self-propelled cranes or farm equipment).
Low-Speed Vehicles
This plate style is for four-wheeled motor vehicles with a maximum speed of more than
20 mph but not more than 25 mph. The vehicle must meet Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard No. 500 (CFR 571.500).
Medium-Speed Vehicles
This plate style is for four-wheeled electric motor vehicles with a roll cage or
crushproof body design that have a maximum speed of 35 mph on a paved, level
surface. The vehicle must be fully enclosed and have at least one door for entry.
School Bus
This plate style is for buses and school activity vehicles used exclusively to transport
school children to and from school or school activities. Available for public and private
vehicles.
Special Use Trailer
This plate style is for trailers 8 ½ feet wide or less with any length, used for
commercial or business purposes and trailers used temporarily on a construction site
for office purposes only.
