ArtiosCAD Minimum System Requirements

These are the minimum requirements for reasonable performance of the described products.

They will help you decide whether the equipment you are currently using remains viable. If

you are considering new equipment, bear in mind that these requirements are minimum, not

optimal. Exceeding these specifications will in general lead to enhanced performance.

Operating Systems

The latest SPs must be installed for all operating systems for OS predating windows 10.

• Windows 10: ArtiosCAD 20.1 will install. Some gui limitations may exist. See Release notes.

o Note: Future versions of Windows 10 may be released independently of an

ArtiosCAD release. If doubt exists as to whether or not a previously released version

of ArtiosCAD will be supported on the new Windows 10 version, the following

consideration can be taken: History has demonstrated that Windows applications,

including ArtiosCAD, are reliably forwards compatible. It is expected that ArtiosCAD

will run in its current form. There may be features of that Windows version which are

not supported, for example, the filesystem case sensitivity. If windows 10 specific

issues are revealed, Esko will consider hot fixing ArtiosCAD based on the severity of

the issue.

• Windows 8, 8.1: ArtiosCAD will install and run on Windows 8 and 8.1 as a standard Windows

application.

• Windows Server 2019, 2016, 2012.

o ArtiosCAD will ship with SQL Express 2012. Microsoft does not support SQL Server

2012 on Windows Server 2019

• Tablets like Surface Pro have not been certified. In many cases, this hardware does not match

the minimum required specifications. Screen sizes are also smaller than optimal and

compatibility scaling mode needs to be disabled.

• VMWare Fusion v7 running on an Intel

Mac OS

. Customer may run later versions of his own

accord on hardware & OS of his choosing, but Esko provides no warranty. The preferred 3D

rendering mode is OpenGL but use Direct3D in the event of unforeseen issues. Virtualized 3D

rendering will not provide the same performance as native hardware.

• The following platforms may be used in an experimental mode. They have been tested to a

certain point but have not been certified for this release:

• Mac Bootcamp

Decertifications

• Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are officially EOL as of Jan 2020. ArtiosCAD 20 will

not be supported for Windows 7 nor windows Server 2008 R2. However, ArtiosCAD does

install and appears to function properly, but is neither certified nor supported.

• ArtiosCAD will become a 64-bit application in the future. This means, at that time, ArtiosCAD

will not install on a 32-bit machine and 32-bit machines will *not* be supported. Please plan to

upgrade your machine to a new 64-bit model.

• Windows XP, Windows server 2003, Windows Vista have been fully EOL’ed by Microsoft and

consequently Esko no longer supports these operating systems.

Internet An internet connection is required on any machine hosting the ArtiosCAD database.

CPU

• Architecture

o To fully take advantage of the 3D Data Exchange module, x86 64-bit processors

will be recommended, especially for importing multi-hundred Mbyte files. You

will need to consider the 64-bit processors for future releases of ArtiosCAD.

o ArtiosCAD is still a 32-bit application. All other uses other than 3D Data

Exchange modules will require at a minimum x86 32-bit processor. ArtiosCAD

will still run on a 64-bit processor but as a 32-bit application.

• Performance

o Minimum: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo: 2.4 GHz, 2.4 GHz

o Recommended: Intel

Memory 4G required for normal use; 8G recommended

3D Data Exchange module:

8G minimum

16G when opening files 500M-1G

16G+ on systems running many applications concurrently

Disk A solid state drive (SSD) is recommended, but not required, as it will

improve the performance of ArtiosCAD in terms of startup time and

access to local files such as defaults or designs. For Enterprise,

access to its local cache that is stored on an SSD will also be

improved.

Disk Space

5 GB for the ArtiosCAD application and 500 MB available on the

system partition.

If you are using the ArtiosCAD Enterprise client, please reserve an

additional 100GB minimally, 200G ideally, for the ArtiosCAD

application on the partition which contains the users system profile.

This is typically (but not guaranteed to be) on the system partition.

ArtiosCAD enterprise utilizes a local cache (Projects on My Computer)

and an offline synchronization location which are stored

in %LOCALAPPDATA%, and the temp directory to unpack HTTP data

which is located at %TEMP%.

If Projects on My Computer are not purged at some regular interval,

please consider 200G (or more, if the user likes to work offline with

many projects).

Network TCP/IP v4 required, TCP/IP v6 not supported

ArtiosCAD Enterprise utilizes http as its core communication protocol.

For optimal performance, do not drop http to a lower quality of service

(QOS), or at least ensure http traffic directed to the enterprise web

server received higher network priority.

For multiSite enterprise deployments, where a site will communicate

with the enterprise frameworks at WAN speeds:

• T1 (1.544 Mbits/s) is required, T3 (44Mbits/s) is optimal

• Due to costs, it should be expected that fractional T1s may be

deployed, but expect lower performance.

Display

1024X768, High Color (16 bit) minimum display

FHD/1080p: 1920x1080

WUXGA 1920x1200

System text scale/zoom size no more than 125%. 150% or higher may

be attempted if the display results are correct.

For use with an external hi-res monitor, the system text zoom/scale,

must be set to the same value for each display for 3D to

render correctly.

UHD/4K has not been certified. If such resolution is attempted on an

external monitor, understand that the system text zoom/scale setting

must match for 3D to render properly.

Display Adapter ArtiosCAD 3D module requires a display adapter that is OpenGL and

Direct-X compliant

ArtiosCAD 3D Designer, 3D Connection, and Animation require a

display adapter with 256 MB or more video RAM.

The better the card, the better the 3D experience.

1G +optimal for lightweight 3D uses

2G+ for solid imports, animation

If CAD-X is used in a server environment, the graphics card still must

match the memory requirement above. Server-class machines

generally do not have high quality or memory graphics cards as

standard issue.

I/O Ports USB port for optional ArtiosCAD Rubber Nesting feature if purchased

Mouse 3 button (2 button can be used with feature limitations)

Database For the standard edition, ArtiosCAD installs Microsoft

SQL Server

2019 Express 64-bit Edition by default for new installations.

A localized SQL Server express 2019 must be installed on the same

localized operating system. This means a German SQL Server 2019

must be installed on a German OS. A German SQL Server 2019 can

*not* be installed on a French OS.

There are some exceptions:

• English SQL Server 2019 can be installed on any localized

OS.

• A localized SQL Server 2019 can be installed on an English

OS provided the MUI pack has been configured properly.

If you are a new customer running on a 32-bit operating

system/machine, you will need to download SQL Server Express 20129

32-bit edition from Microsoft and manually install and configure

*before* ArtiosCAD can be installed. The dba must create an instance

called Esko, set the sa password to its default password , create a

case-insensitive database called ArtiosCADdb, and an ODBC entry

called ArtiosCAD pointing to the Esko instance.

*Before* installing SQL Server 2019 on the database server, ensure the

OS is on the latest service pack and has all windows updates applied.

SQL Server 2019 will reach out to the MS download site and ensure all

the latest components are installed. Failure to keep the database

server up to date will result in a very long SQL Server 2019 installation

time.
