Clark, Henry Scott was born May 19, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois and was the son of
James and Marjorie (Wetter) Clark. He was a World War II Army Veteran and he was a
police officer in Warren, Illinois for a time. Henry was married and had one daughter,
Donna Marquart. He later married Geraldine Adelaide O’Rourke on October 2, 1981 in
Mount Carroll and this marriage gave him seven stepchildren: Denise Jo (Middendorf)
Wolter, Geraldine Ann (Middendorf) Bade, Daniel Joseph Middendorf, Edward John
Middendorf, Toni Marie (Middendorf) Moser, Timothy Shawn Middendorf, and Patrick
John Middendorf. The family lived in Hanover and Henry was a machinist at Eaton
Corporation before his retirement in 1983. Henry died February 5, 1987 and cremation
rites were accorded.
Clark, Hilda Louisa (Reifsteck) was born November 16, 1896 in Hanover and was the
daughter of Christian and Anna Louisa (Hildebrand) Reifsteck. She graduated from
Hanover High School in 1914 and from Bayless Business College, Dubuque, Iowa. She
married Boland James Clark on December 31, 1936 in Joliet. Hilda was a stenographer,
secretary and clerk for Hanover Woolen Manufacturing Company. Stover
Manufacturing and Engine Company in Freeport also employed her. Hilda worked for
the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Chicago for 30 years, retiring in 1956 and later
moving back to Hanover. Boland died July 6, 1937 in Chicago. Hilda died January 25,
1994 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Clarkson, Ida Helena (Kuhse) was born March 16, 1914 in Woodbine, Jo Daviess
County and was the daughter of William J. and Rosina Catrina (Atz) Kuhse. She
married Mark Wayne Clarkson on September 28, 1935 in Streator, Illinois and ten
children were born to this union: Marjorie Ann (Clarkson) Schultz, Janice RosaLee
(Clarkson) Steele, Wayne Sherman Clarkson, William Frederick Clarkson, Bonnie Kay
(Clarkson) Olson, Donald Lawrence Clarkson, Sandra Ruth (Clarkson) Harkness, Kathy
Lee (Clarkson) Winter, Norman LaVerne Clarkson, and Mark Allen Clarkson Jr. Ida
and Mark later divorced. Ida resided at the Elizabeth Nursing Home for her last nine
years when she died on October 2, 1981. She is buried in the Shepherd of the Hills
Lutheran Cemetery, Schapville.
Clarkson, Jennifer Marie was stillborn on November 21, 1991. She was the daughter
of Dawn Goodrich and Benji Clarkson, both from Hanover. Jennifer is buried in Ladies
Union Cemetery, Stockton.
Clarkson, Mark Wayne was born March 18, 1915 in Clinton, Iowa and was the son of
Frederick Emanuel and Henrietta Gertrude (Stutting) Clarkson. Mark married Ida
Helena Kuhse on September 28, 1935 in Streator, Illinois and ten children were born to
this union: Marjorie Ann (Clarkson) Schultz, Janice RosaLee (Clarkson) Steele, Wayne
Sherman Clarkson, William Frederick Clarkson, Bonnie Kay (Clarkson) Olson, Donald
Lawrence Clarkson, Sandra Ruth (Clarkson) Harkness, Kathy Lee (Clarkson) Winter,
Norman LaVerne Clarkson, and Mark Allen Clarkson Jr. Mark and Ida divorced and he
later married Mary Ellen (Kempter) Johnson on February 26, 1969, this union gave him
ten step-children: Leslie Alvin Johnson, Alvina Jean (Johnson) Jordan, Wayne William
Johnson, Shirley Kay (Johnson) Gusloff, Sharon Fay (Johnson) Matous, Roger Ray
Johnson, Melvin Lee Johnson, Calvin Lynn Johnson, Connie Sue (Johnson) Richards,
and Dalvin Leo Johnson. Mark retired from farming and bought the Mill City Tap in
Hanover in May 1967 and operated it until September 1973. Mark died on November 6,
1980 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula, Iowa.
