2.5Asabasicprinciplestudentswillbesupportedtoachievethehighestlevelofautonomythatispossible
giventheirageandabilities.Staffwillencourageeachstudenttodoasmuchforthemselvesastheycan.This
maymean,forexample,givingthestudentresponsibilityforwashingthemselves.Individualintimatecare
planswillbedrawnupforparticularstudentsasappropriatetosuittheircircumstances.Theseplansinclude
afullriskassessmenttoaddressissuessuchasmovingandhandling,personalsafetyofthestudentandthe
staff.
2.6Eachstudent'srighttoprivacywillberespected.Carefulconsiderationwillbegiventoeachstudent's
situationtodeterminehowmanystaffmightneedtobepresentwhenastudentneedshelpwithintimate
care.Wherepossibleonestudentwillbecaredforbytwoadults.
2.7Whereverpossiblethesamestudentwillnotbecaredforbythesameadultonaregularbasis;therewill
benamedstaffmembersknowntothestudentwhowilltaketurnsinprovidingcare.Thiswillensure,asfar
as possible, that over‐familiar relationships are discouraged from developing, while at the same time
guardingagainstthecarebeingcarriedoutbyasuccessionofcompletelydifferentstaff.
2.8Parents/staffwillbeinvolvedwiththeirchild'sintimatecarearrangementsonaregularbasis;aclear
account ofthe agreed arrangements will berecorded onthe child'scare plan. The needsand wishes of
studentsandparentswillbecarefullyconsideredalongsideanypossibleconstraints,e.g.staffingandequal
opportunitieslegislation.
2.9Eachchild/youngpersonwillhaveanassignedmemberofstafftoactasanadvocatetowhomtheywill
beabletocommunicateanyissuesorconcernsthattheymayhaveaboutthequalityofcaretheyreceive.
THEPROTECTIONOFCHILDREN
3.1EducationChildProtectionProceduresandInter‐AgencyChildProtectionprocedureswillbeaccessible
tostaffandadheredto.
3.2Whereappropriate,allstudentswillbetaughtpersonalsafetyskillscarefullymatchedtotheirlevelof
developmentandunderstanding.
3.3Ifamemberofstaffhasanyconcernsaboutphysicalchangesinastudent'spresentation,e.g.marks,
bruises,sorenessetc.he/shewillimmediatelyreportconcernstotheappropriatedesignatedsafeguarding
lead. Aclear recordof the concern will becompleted and referred tothe safeguarding lead at Taaleem
CentralOfficeandrelevantauthorityifnecessary.Parentswillbeaskedfortheirconsentorinformedthata
referralisnecessarypriortoitbeingmadeunlessdoingsoislikelytoplacethechildatgreaterriskofharm.

3.4Ifastudentbecomesdistressedorunhappyaboutbeingcaredforbyaparticularmemberofstafforan
ILSA (Independent Learning Support Assistant) the matter will be looked into and outcomes recorded.
Parents/guardianswillbecontactedattheearliestopportunityaspartofthisprocessinordertoreacha
resolution.Staffingscheduleswillbealtereduntiltheissue(s)areresolvedsothatthestudentneedsremain
paramount.Furtheradvicewillbetakenfromoutsideagenciesifnecessary.
