PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
Professor, Central Michigan University, Mt Pleasant, MI. Employed June 1998 and promoted to
Professor in August 2008. Appointed interim Associate Dean in May 2009 June 2012. Appointed
Assistant Chair, Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development, September 2014
May 2017.
Director of the Center for Excellence in Education (CEIE) in the College of Education and Human Services
from 7/1/12 through 6/16/13. Responsibilities include oversight of faculty and staff for projects and
contracts obtained as a part of the center’s scope of work. Also responsible for facilitating grants and
contracts related to K-16 professional development, enhancing K-16 student performance, and research
in the area of K-16 education.
Served over 3 years as the interim Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Services.
Responsibilities included oversight of faculty and staff for the departments of Teacher Education and
Professional Development (TEPD), Counseling and Special Education (CSE), Recreation, Parks and Leisure
Administration (RPL), Educational Leadership (EDL), and Human Environmental Studies (HEV). Also
responsible for leadership of curricular and assessment initiatives, facilitation of accreditation and
assessment activities in teacher education, supervision of staff in the college, and collaboration with
Development Office. Duties also include budget planning and implementation, as well as oversight of art
gallery, child development learning laboratory, reading clinics, computer labs, and the Kromer
Instructional Materials Center.
Tenured faculty member in the Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development in the
College of Education and Human Services. Served as the TEAC accreditation coordinator, as well as the
NCATE Accreditation Coordinator for the Professional Education Unit. Served as a member of the
Prior Learning Assessment Team. Past assignment has included serving as the Student Teaching
Coordinator for greater Lansing and the Mt Pleasant areas. Responsible for the placement and
supervision of student teachers, and the coordination of inter-institutional student teaching placements.
Served three years as Assistant Chair for Teacher Education and Professional Development as well as the
Director of Student Teaching in the Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development.
Other duties and activities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level classes, advising and
mentoring students, and serving on academic committees.

Teaching responsibilities included teaching sections of developmental level mathematics, Algebra I, and

Regents college credit portfolio program for the award of college equivalency, and collaborated with
other faculty in the design of rubrics for portfolio review.

Worked with the Graduate Immersion Program for non-traditional students in the school of Continuing
Studies. Taught courses in integrating the curriculum in mathematics and science, advanced teaching
and learning strategies, classroom management strategies, and using the national standards and
benchmarks to enhance the teaching curriculum. Additional duties included the review of candidate
portfolios submitted for admission and the development of recommendations for college level
equivalency.
Science and Technology Specialist, Eisenhower Regional Consortium for Mathematics and Science
Education at the Appalachia Educational Laboratory, Charleston, WV. (8/93 to 3/96)
Provided technical assistance and professional development opportunities to teachers and
administrators for a multi-state consortium focused on systemic reform in mathematics and science
education. Coordinated the Regional Informal Science Initiative promoting collaboration between public
schools and informal science organizations. Coordinated a technology demonstration site, sponsored by
the Eisenhower Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education, promoting the use of
instructional technology, multi-media, and the Internet in the classroom. Coordinated the identification
of best practices for National Network of Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Consortia. Co-edited a
regional newsletter (WV, KY, VA, and TN) to promote systemic restructuring and identify outstanding
educational practices on the regional level. Developed, published, and disseminated professional
development materials related to the national standards in Mathematics and Science.
