Star Card – Idahos REAL ID is
now available!
The Star Card is Idahos version of the
REAL ID. It is an Idaho drivers license or
identication card that adds a Star to show
it is in compliance with national REAL ID
security standards.
Starting May 7, 2025, you will need
an Idaho Star Card drivers license,
identication card, passport or military
identication to y commercially or enter
a federal facility. The Star Card is not
mandatory.

Don’t forget to change your driver’s license!

First, you must change the name on
your Social Security card. Go to
faq.ssa.gov or contact your local
Social Security oce for information
on how to complete the necessary
forms.
You must receive conrmation of the
name change by the Social Security
Administration before taking the
next step. Your county Sheris DMV
oce will electronically verify your
name, birth date and Social Security
number with the Social Security
Administration.
Second, locate your court order. If
you do not have a copy, contact the
court that issued the decree. A court
order is also required to change a
common or assumed name, such as
William to Bill.
Third, take the court order to your
county Sheris DMV oce.
