North Carolina Community College Transfer Guide into the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) is the largest academic college at UNC Charlotte. Visit the College of Liberal Arts and
Science website for a full list of majors offered. This transfer guide outlines suggested NC Community College courses for students to take
that align with some of the most popular CLAS majors. Students are encouraged to take as many of the courses listed below while also
completing General Education coursework and/or earning a transferable associates degree. Any suggested courses not taken at the community
college prior to transferring can be taken upon transferring to UNC Charlotte.

Psychology Major:
Transfer students are able to transfer directly into the Psychology major. Prior to transferring, students are advised to focus
General Education coursework and major-specific courses listed below. It is important to note not all suggested courses are
offered at all NC community colleges. Students should work with their academic advisor to select available courses.

The Psychology major requires a minor or a second major. It is recommended that students take additional
introductory courses in areas that might serve as their minor or second major prior to transferring
Students who finish their AA or AS degree tend to have more streamlined transitions

Communication Majors:
Transfer
students are considered Pre-Communication until they meet the following criteria:
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
Successful completion of the foreign language requirement
Grade C or above in COMM 1101, COMM 2100, and STAT 1222
Transfer students should note that COMM 2100 has no equivalent course at NC Community Colleges and must be taken at
UNC Charlotte. Students are advised to begin their foreign language requirement prior to transferring and can focus on
general education coursework and other major
-specific courses listed below.

Criminal Justice Majors:
Transfer students will enter into UNC Charlotte as a Pre-Criminal Justice major. Students must complete a series of courses,
indicated below, and have a 2.0 GPA in order to declare the Criminal Justice major.
Note: Some of the suggested CJC courses may
not be within the AA/AS/AFA curriculum but all are transferable and will count toward a student’s degree at UNC Charlotte.

AAS in Criminal Justice: Students completing the AAS in Criminal Justice will receive a General Education exemption upon
transferring, however only general education courses and the specific CJC courses listed above are transferable from within the AAS

Foreign Language: Students are advised to begin their foreign language requirement prior to transferring. Foreign
Language through the 2000 level does not have to be fully completed prior to transferring but it is a major graduation
