FREE PRESCHOOL PROGRAM!
The Chesapeake Preschool Initiative (CPI) is a FREE full-day program for children who will be four years old
by September 30, 2016.The program is designed to give eligible children opportunities to create a firm
educational foundation that can be used to achieve academic and social success. Acceptance into the
program is not on a first-come, first-served basis, but is determined on eligibility criteria and
identified risk factors.
Applications for the 2016-2017 school year will be reviewed at specifically identified screening locations and
throughout the school year. Locations, dates, and times are included with this flyer. Please use this link to

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The Chesapeake Preschool Initiative will follow the Chesapeake Public Schools Academic Calendar
There will be a maximum of 18 children in each classroom
Teachers and assistants will be employed by Chesapeake Public Schools
Transportation will be provided by Chesapeake Public Schools
Parents/Guardians will be required to participate in school activities and events
Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily by Chesapeake Public Schools.
(Parents are required to submit an application for breakfast/lunch assistance if selected for the
Chesapeake Preschool Initiative.)
The Chesapeake Preschool Initiative serves children who are exposed to factors and situations that are likely
to have an adverse impact on their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Risk factors include,
but are not limited to; family income, level of parent/guardian education, housing or homelessness, and special
needs or disability.
Parent(s)/guardian(s) must provide original documents and copies of each of the following before the
application can be accepted:
Child’s certified birth certificate
(original)
Proof of residence -
(lease agreement and/or notarized residing with statement (CPS approved) or
one of the following: current electric, gas, or water bill)
Current proof of income
copy of W2 (previous year), SSA, 1099, SSI or two most recent pay
stubs
Unemployment income determination letter
(if applicable)
SNAP and/or TANF documentation and case number
(if applicable)
WIC ID number
(if applicable)
Custody papers
(if applicable)
Child support documentation
(if applicable)
Current phone numbers and email addresses for two (2) contacts
Preschool Screening Locations & Information

This location will schedule appointments and complete screenings for children who are eligible for the
Chesapeake Preschool Initiative (formally Early Adventures) four-year old program. Please call (757) 547-1165 to
schedule an eligibility screening appointment.
HEAD START PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS (THREE AND FOUR-YEAR OLD PROGRAMS)
This location will schedule appointments and complete screenings for children who are eligible for the HEAD
START three or four-year old program. Parents interested in applying should call 757-673-0548
to schedule an eligibility screening appointment.
Although, the initial placement of students for both CPI and HEAD START will take place at the end of
May, we take applications all year. Please do your best to schedule an appointment to complete your
