Masters in Speech Language Pathology
General
hat is the timeline for admission?
We admit students to begin in the fall session only. The application opens in early September
and all application materials must be received by January 15
th
. The admissions committee
reviews applications in mid-January though early February. Applicants will be notified in
February of the admission decision.
How do I check the status of my online application?
Use the email link you received after you submitted your online application to log into the My
UW portal. The email is automatically sent to you within 24 hours after your submission. If you
did not receive the link, please contact webapp@grad.wisc.edu.
You can monitor our receipt of your application materials through the My UW portal. When you
log into the system, you will see a checklist showing which of your application items we have
received and what remains missing. It is very important that you monitor this, as we will not
consider incomplete applications or materials arriving after the January 15
th
deadline.
What should I include in my statement of purpose?
The statement of purpose should communicate your reasons for wanting to study speech
language pathology. The statement also gives you an opportunity to highlight experiences,
related skills, and personal attributes which make you an exceptional candidate. The statement
can be 1-3 pages, single-spaced.
What else should I do to make my application strong?
Submit your resume and highlight your activities relevant to speech-language pathology. These
experiences include but are not limited to the following: volunteer and work experiences
related to assessment and intervention in SLP and / or audiology, volunteer and work
experiences related more broadly to people with communication disorders, intellectual and
developmental disabilities, acquired disabilities, child development, etc.; research experiences
related to communication sciences and disorders, personal experiences related to
communication sciences and disorders.
GPA, both overall and within the major is weighted heavily in admission decisions.
GRE scores are also used to help guide our admission decisions.
